'Tyubeteika' is the Russian word for several varieties of traditional Central Asian headwear, work in Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan and other countries.
Central Asian tyubeteikas differ widely as to the local ethnic groups and provinces: they are rounded or square, with pointed or flat tops, adorned with various designs and made of various materials.
This particular one was handmade in Uzbekistan.
The hat bears some resemblance to the shape of the yurt. It was very popular between 1930-60s in the USSR, when it was worn by many, regardless of their nationality.
